Thanks

First I wanted to send out a big Thanks to those of you that sent me flowers, brought magazines, came to visit, and even called to check on me. I am so Thankful to have so many caring people in my life. I can't imagine life without all of you!

I am feeling much better, and am just trying to adjust to this NEW lifestyle. Doc's are still trying to SLOWLY control my blood sugar so that my body doesn't wonder what the heck is going on. I am taking insulin before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then again at bedtime. Hopefully once controlled I won't have to take it as many times a day. But right now it seems as though they just keep adding the times a day I have to take it. Like David said in his below post, more than anything, its just an inconvenience. Once I get used to checking my blood and taking insulin before every meal, it will become second nature. I won't even have to think about it. For the next month I will be visiting the Doc weekly. I feel better knowing that I am being closely monitored. The docs have been really Great!

Today, I am heading to the salon for my second hair trial appointment, at 4 I have another dress fitting, and my mom and I are meeting the cake lady. Yeah, maybe she will have cake for me, but I can't have any!! BLAAAAAAAAHHH~

See Davids post below for details....

Another Chapter

As most of you all know, this week, Julie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Now for those of you who aren't familiar with Type 1 Diabetes, I will explain...

It is unclear what the exact cause of type 1 diabetes is, but they think it can be brought on by many things, a recent illness, stress, etc. In Julie's case, we're not sure how long she's had the disease but she just recently started feeling strong symptoms. These symptoms included excessive thirst, frequent urination, nausea, fatigue, increased hunger, dehydration and weight loss. I have a feeling Julie's condition was brougt on by stress, she has a tendency to stress out and have anxiety. This is something she will have to work on to be healthy.

In the begining stages of Type 1 Diabetes, the body's own immune system attacks the pancreas, the organ that produces insulin. Now if you don't know what insulin does, I will expliain...When you eat certain foods like carbohydrates, it gets absorbed in to your blood stream as glusose (sugar). This is a good thing because it give us energy to live our lives. The cells in your body really like that glucose and want it badly, the problem is that it needs insulin mixed in with the glucose in order to absorb it. With Type 1 Diabetes, the pancreas is not producing the insulin it needs to mix in with the blood glucose, therefore, the cells can't absorb it. Now all that sugar stays in your blood and your blood sugar rises to abnormal levels. Normal blood sugar is between 70-120, Julie's was in the high 400's.

Luckily we caught the problem in time and Julie can go on and live a normal life once again. Personally, I look at Diabetes not as a disease, but only as an inconvienence, like taking out the trash, or mowing the lawn. She will have to give herself shots (insulin) everyday for the rest of her life...no big deal.

If you think about it, this may turn out to be a good thing for both of us. Yes it kinda blows that Julie will have to give herself shots everyday and test her blood level often, but it will force the both of us to eat healthy for the rest of our lives, therefore we will live longer. Also, diabetics need to exercise frequently, so now we will always have an excuse to go to the gym.

So yes, it was a very stressfull few days for Julie but I think she is becoming more comfortable with the situation every day. I told her that I am now a Diabetic also and if she has to maintain a certain diet and exercise regularly, then so do I. We are in this together and we will be a stronger couple because of it.

Sorry for slacking...

Okay so I have been slacking a bit on our blog... But really its only because I am busy. We had a wonderful Christmas with both of our families and a relaxing New Year. Now we are just anxious for the wedding day to get here. It seems as though my days in the next 5 weeks will only get busier. In fact, today I was on the phone from 3:00 until 6:30 making appointments and arrangements.

I haven't been feeling the greatest so I am going to the doctor tomorrow to have some blood drawn. David is also visiting an Orthopedic Surgeon tomorrow for his back. For those of you that don't know he had an MRI a couple weeks ago and was told he has a herneated disc, a pinched nerve, and arthrits. Hopefully tomorrow we get some good news on having surgery very soon so he has time to heal for the wedding. I would hate for him to be miserable on one of the most important days of our lives. Please pray for us!

Saturday I work from 7-3 and at 4 mom and I are headed to Hawthorne Valley (the reception hall) to remind ourselves how this room is set up exactly. Following Hawthorne, we are headed to Mary Lou's (the cake lady/wedding coordinator) to maybe pick out some other center pieces. Maybe she will have some cake for me to eat, her cake is amazing. Trust me when I tell you!!!

Next week on Monday, I have a hair trial appointment at 10:30 and following at 4 I have one of my final fittings... I am so excited to see the hair done with the dress on. So now I need your opinions... Hair UP or hair half up???? Mom and David want it half up. But I think it may be a hassle. Let me know what you think?
